Vernier Caliper

Vernier caliper

Aim:

To measure any linear dimensional measurements (length of a cylinder, diameter of cylinder, diameter of a sphere etc).

Apparatus required:

Vernier caliper, given cylinder or sphere etc

Formula:

Procedure:

The first step is to make sure that no measurements are made so that the alignment of the main and vernier scales can be confirmed. Zero error is absent when the readings on the main scale and the vernier scale are both zero.

Next, place the object in between the vernier scale's jaws. The main scale reading is obtained by seeing how the vernier scale's zero mark lines up with the main scale.

To get the vernier scale reading, then find the place on the vernier scale that lines up with the main scale. It is important to understand that these readings are usually given as decimals.

The primary scale reading is represented by the integer component, and the fractional part corresponds to the vernier scale reading.
